The birthday of Our School
On April 10, 2011, “My Friends” cooking school has opened its doors for the first time. It became the first in Odessa and the second in Ukraine cooking school. It was a time when we decided to “step into the unknown”, to start doing something completely new, although people in Odessa did not need such a pastime as cooking lessons at that time. Despite all the risks, we were driven by our love of food in all its manifestations: cooking, serving, photography, history, social role – because food gives the simplest pleasure and unites people. We did not expect how much our students would love us and what a real holiday for them and for us would be the school’s birthday. And although we were only 2 years old, we decided to celebrate this date with all our friends. According to the school’s tradition, we cooked everything together with the help of chefs Ivan Slinko and Alexander Stefoglo, and sommelier Ksenia Yangulova, Goodwine. The gala dinner menu consisted of dishes from our favourite Greek cuisine and Chateau Nico Lazaridi White PGI Drama Nico Lazaridi wine, the first Greek wine that appeared on the Ukrainian market. The premises of our school could not accommodate everyone, so the holiday was held in our friends’ active kitchen at the Stil Haus gallery. Usually we give presents, but on this day our students arranged a real holiday for us: they baked bread with the school logo, prepared a chocolate cake decorated with candles, wrote poems to us, and made a handmade picture from beans with our logo, gave flowers, balls and smiles. Let us tell you a secret, two years ago, when we came up with the name for our school, we had two versions: “Garlic” and “My Friends”. It’s hard for us to imagine what would happen if the school were called “Garlic” 😊 Like they say, what others call you, you become. Therefore, two years of school gave us and our students a lot of pleasant acquaintances and real friends!
