Dining with Proust

I am an avid hunter. Hunting for old cookbooks. Unique content that you won’t find just “googling it”. Recipes, many of which are forgotten, lost and left with the author. I cherish the dream that one day my library will come in handy for me, you or someone else, it doesn’t matter. Preserving the memory of humankind about the gastronomic past is the purpose of my collection. My new trophy is the book “Dinning with Proust”. This book tells us about food described by French writer Marcel Proust in his works. One of the most famous scenes in the world literature is the scene where the protagonist dips French Madeleine cookies into tea. By doing this, he is transferred to hundreds of pages of childhood memories, with which he has the taste of this cookie forever associated. In French, the expression “Madeleine Proust” even turned into a metaphor for “the taste of childhood”. The book is illustrated with photographs by French photographer Jean-Bernard Naudin. Two of the photos reminded me of my Odessa childhood. Can you guess how? 🙂
